Spurs shotstopper Lize Kop was described as a"typical goalkeeper" and "a real good character, both on and off the pitch" by Chris Williams, the goalkeeping coach who stood in for Martin Ho at this week's pre-match press conference. (The head coach was sadly attending a funeral.) He also commented on the row between Mary Earps and Hannah Hampton, which has dominated the media in recent times.
Speaking ahead of this weekend's clash with London City Lionesses, Williams said that Kop is"certainly ambitious". This became apparent during the process of recruiting her. He's clearly pleased to have brought her to the club, saying that she has been "very good both in possession and out of possession," as the side has made a good start to the season.
Of course, no 'keeper is perfect and "there's things that we highlighted when she first came in that me and Lize both spoke about," explained Williams. However, he said that they are "working towards those areas and she's making good strides on that. He added that Kop is a "really important part of us".
On May Earps and Hannah Hampton
Asked about the row between Mary Earps and Hannah Hampton, Williams was more diplomatic. "I think ultimately both of them are top international goalkeepers," he said. "They've both proven themselves."
Beyond that, he declined to get too involved saying that "what's going on between those two is, between those two, it's not for me to comment on. My job is to focus on us moving forward, Tottenham Hotspur and the goalkeepers as I have within the football club."
