The Revival of Clare Hunt

Tōko Koga has rightly received lots of price for her start to life in the WSL. However, Clare Hunt, who has been partnering the Japanese teenager at centre-back, has been a revelation this season. Following another clean sheet in last week's win over Brighton, manager Martin Ho said:

She's done really well. I think both of them, in Molly [Batrip's] absence have done well... I thought she performed really well.

When Bartrip does return from injury, it will be interesting to see who partners her in the middle of the defence. However, Hunt's performances have meant Bartrip has not had to be rushed back from injury, which is hugely important.

It's a real turnaround for the Aussie defender. Hunt has not always had the easiest time in lilywhite. Her horrid mistake against Man City in November 2024, allowing Bunny Shaw to score after just 23 seconds, rocked her for months after. Now, though, Hunt seems much more settled. She has significantly contributed to Spurs only conceding six goals in five games, almost all of which came in that 1-5 hammering by Man City.

Sunday against Chelsea will be another huge test for the Tottenham defence. The Champions have already scored 11 goals in their five games, and seem to be really finding their momentum, not least because Sam Kerr is getting fit again. For Clare Hunt, it's another opportunity to show how much things have improved.
