As with the victory over Leicester last week, Brighton's visit to Brisbane Road feels like a must-win for Tottenham. Not because they are in a bad run of form, or low position in the WSL, but because it is a "can win" game. So the three points are essential.
Ignore the Man City game, and there are plenty of positives from the opening part of this season. Cathinka Tandberg really is an excellent footballer. She's the kind of player that is not only good herself, but gets more out of her teammates. She is deservedly up for player of the month. Manager Martin Ho said that “she’s had a big impact, personally and professionally." He described the Norwegian as "a very infectious player around the group and a really good individual. She adds a lot of quality to us as a team, she gives us different dimensions as a player, in terms of how we want to attack and defend." Scoring from near the halfway line in your first start helps too...
We're starting to see the real Olivia Holdt as well. The Dane is starting to express herself and score top goals. Forgive the cliché, but having her fit and firing is like having a new player. She needs to start and get driving at those Seagulls defenders. Drew Spence and Eveliina Summanen can be the bouncers shutting the doors behind her.
Spurs Favourites vs Brighton
Martin Ho's side definitely go into this game as favourites. The change he has brought about in a short period of time is genuinely impressive. Spurs are winning points they simply would not have done last season. (An equaliser definitely would have gone in against Leicester.)
Unfortunately, Ho has been nominated for manager of the month. Hopefully he doesn't win it, because we all know what that means...
Either way Ho is clearly pushing for more. He said:
I know there’s still a lot more to come from us. We’ve had some ups and downs, some dips in performance, but we’ve had some really solid performances too. We’ve got to continue to build momentum, keep building, evolving and taking the right steps. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
The Spurs boss said their opponents "have a really nice playing style, very front footed, very aggressive off the ball and they want to contest possession." It's going to be another test, and another game that shows how far the team has progressed.
