Tottenham Hotspur Women players celebrate after beating West Ham

Let's be honest, Spurs vs West Ham in the WSL was not a great spectacle. There were only two shots on target during the game, of which one was the penalty through which Tottenham claimed the 1-0 victory.

The hosts started off pretty well, with Jess Naz involved in a break that led to a corner. However, as the game went on, things got more fractured. We stumbled through to halftime with barely an attempt at goal. Spurs had more of the possession, but struggled to find the final pass. The closest they came was a looping cross-shot by Drew Spence in the second half. (Irons goalkeeper Kinga Szemik had to be substituted after she clattered into her own woodwork to deal with it.)

As things went on, I became more and more convinced that West Ham would sneak a 0-1 victory. However, a mistimed tackle by Katrina Gorry on Eveliina Summanen with five minutes to go saw the referee point to the spot.  Beth England stepped up and that was that.

Hey Ho, Let's Go

It might not have been pretty, but new boss Martin Ho was determined to enjoy the win. "We've got into really good attacking positions, but we've lacked the opportunity on goal," was how he summarised things. "I think if you haven't had a win in nine months, and then you get a win... We've missed this feeling. We want this feeling more,"  he said.

Ultimately, it was the three points that really mattered and it was three points they got. The Martin Ho era is underway.
