London City Lionesses vs Tottenham Hotspur Women in the WSL is another tricky away test for Martin Ho's side. Not necessarily because their opponents have been so good, although they have picked up a creditable three wins from their first seven games, but because Spurs need to show that they can beat everyone else apart from "the big four".
Last week's win over Liverpool was deserved. The performance, impressive. Doing it on the road is another thing though.
It will be interesting to see who Ho starts with. He shook things up a bit after the international break, with Beth England playing an hour before Tink Tandberg came on. I expected both of them to start the game today, but it’s the Norwegian who has got the nod to start.
Goalkeeping coach Chris Williams, standing in for Ho (who was sadly at a funeral,) at the weekly press conference, acknowledged the battle for starting place in the Spurs squad, particularly between England and Tandberg. "Ultimately what we want within the squad is competition," he said. "So obviously from that point of view, they're both putting pressure on each other and challenging each other and pushing each other to new levels to help the team, help each other and obviously help themselves as well. So it's a healthy competition between the two of them."
Jess Naz will surely last beyond the 60 minute mark this time too. One thing is for certain, much of the play will be built around Olivia Holdt, who has been the star of the season so far.
Positive Week in Preparation for London City Lionesses
It's clearly been a positive week after the latest victory, with Williams reporting that there is "a lot of life in the squad." Overall, the coach confirmed that everyone is available to play apart from the three players suffering from longterm injuries - Maite Oroz, Ella Morris and Luana Buhler.
Spurs have shown some battling spirit away, especially in that Brighton game. That showed resilience, a quality likely to be needed against London City Lionesses this weekend. While the hosts do have some quality, and a good mix of youth and experience, the north Londoners should have too much for them. We've seen an increasing number of fast, slick moves opening up defences.
Williams accepted that London City Lionesses had "recruited well over the summer", and that the game would be a challenge. By late Sunday afternoon, we will have a pretty clear perspective of where Spurs are and whether they really can be the best of the rest.
