Preview: Leicester City vs Tottenham Women in the WSL - 28 September, 2025 [Team News]

Let’s make no bones about it, Tottenham Hotspur Women put in a dismal showing against Man City last time out in the WSL. A draw and a penalty win against Aston Villa in the League Cup was nice. Three points against Leicester City is crucial.

Spurs boss Martin Ho declined to put it in those terms in his pre-match press conference. “Every game we go into, we want to win… We need to go into the right mindset,” he said. I’m sure that’s true, but we know that, in reality, victory is more likely in some games than others. Leicester is one of those more likely games.

Ho once again emphasised the need for a strong performance too. His players certainly showed what they are capable of in the win over Everton at Goodison Park. However, it was back to the bad old ways against City. The manager rejected the suggestion that his players had shown a lack of character in that game. However, he accepted there had been some “deflation” after conceding the first goal. “There wasn’t a lack of character. Definitely not.”

Worldies and Some Creativity Needed by Spurs Women

Spurs Women have scored some fantastic goals this season, not least the incredible strikes from Cathinka Tandberg and Olivia Holdt against Everton and Man City respectively. The partnership between Tandberg and Beth England shows a lot of promise, with the skipper dropping deep. The goals have not been free flowing though. This was emphasised again with the failure to convert against Aston Villa during the week. Ho believes “we’ve got enough creativity in the team.” Sunday’s game is an occasion that it needs to shine and expose a potentially vulnerable defence.

“What we’ve spoken about as a team,” Ho explained, “is making sure we can sustain attacks for longer… and making sure that we can create bigger chances.”

Those chances will need to be made and converted by Tottenham Women on their visit to Leicester City. The Foxes are no pushover, but the visitors really have too much quality. If not, the momentum gathered by the wins vs West Ham and Everton will be lost and this season will start looking too much like the last one.
